Mario Kart 64 is the second game in the Mario Kart series, in which you get a total of eight characters that you can choose to play on a couple of racetracks that are different in size and shape. While competing in the race, players can obtain various items from unique-looking boxes that will grant them powers such as shell shooting and a variety of other fun abilities. Shells and Bananas enable the players to attack the other characters, making them slow down. Mushrooms will give the player a boost in their jumping and speed abilities, allowing them to move faster. In Mario Kart 64, you can carry more than one item, as opposed to the previous Super Mario Kart.

Triple Mushroom: Grants the kart user three speed boosts.
Super Mushroom: Grants the kart user an infinite amount of speed boosts for a short time.
Banana Peel: It makes a kart spin around and come to a brief halt.
Banana Bunch: It summons 5 Banana Peels behind a racer, making them harder to avoid. It has the same effects as a regular Banana Peel.
Green Shell: A Green Shell works like a missile, it will spin and stop any kart that it hits.
Triple Green Shell: It forms a protective barrier of three Green Shells around the kart user. The shells can be thrown like a regular Green Shell, or used as a shield to protect against an opponent's items.
Red Shell: A Red Shell works in the same way as a Green Shell, but it will home in on an opponent kart and chase them down until they are hit.
Triple Red Shell: It forms a protective barrier of three Red Shells around the kart user. The shells can be thrown like a regular Red Shell, or used as a shield to protect against an opponent's items.
Spiny Shell: This shell hones in on the kart in first place and targets it in particular.
Super Star: The Star makes the user's kart completely invulnerable to all damage, while also providing a small speed boost.
Thunder Bolt: This item shrinks all the racers except for its user. It will make the other racers vulnerable to getting run over.
Boo: It spawns a ghost that turns the user invisible and invulnerable to all damage for a short period of time. It also steals an opponent’s item.
Fake Item: Looks similar to a regular item crate. Any kart that runs into it will be launched and brought to a halt.

Mario Kart 64 Tips

Use Fake Item Boxes Cautionally

Fake item boxes are very useful. However, you’ll have to use them wisely too. They look a little different from the original boxes, and if you put them in obvious locations, no one is going to get into your trap. You should put the fake boxes in the right place, where you can find other boxes.

Don’t Spin Out After Getting Hit with a Banana

Whenever you get hit by a banana, don’t panic. You must use the right movements. After getting hit with a banana, you should immediately use the brakes for a moment so you won’t spin.

Starting Boost or Rocket Start

To get a boost at the beginning of the race, press the acceleration button when the lights turn blue.
