Hello, beloved Mario Kart fans! We've got some thrilling news that will make you want to hop back into your karts and hit the tracks. Our favourite racing game, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, has achieved an incredible milestone in the gaming world.
As of March 2024, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has sold a staggering 61.97 million units. Yes, you read that right! This phenomenal number means that our beloved game has now outpaced the lifetime sales of the iconic Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) hardware, which topped out at 61.91 million units worldwide. It's a momentous achievement that highlights just how much we, the Mario Kart fans, adore this game. If you're wondering how this stacks up against other popular Nintendo Switch titles, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is miles ahead. In second place, we have Animal Crossing: New Horizons with 45.36 million units sold, followed by Super Smash Bros. Ultimate at 34.22 million units. Clearly, nothing can keep up with the thrilling races and endless fun of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
But when you add in the 8.46 million units sold of the original Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U, the total sales climb even higher. This version of the game, first released in 2014, has now been entertaining us for a whole decade. It's incredible to see how this game has continued to captivate players year after year.
Nintendo has done an excellent job keeping up by introducing the massive 'Booster Course Pass' DLC. This incredible add-on brings 48 additional tracks, blending new and retro courses, eight new playable characters and Mii Racing suits. It's these constant updates that keep us coming back for more thrilling races and friendly competition.
